Example Proclamation:
WHEREAS, Columbus, Georgia was the first and longest-running active tree city in the State of Georgia to earn the certification as a Tree City USA; and
WHEREAS, Columbus, Georgia will celebrate the 42nd Anniversary of Arbor Day on Saturday, February 22, 2020, by planting trees in Cooper Creek Park; and
WHEREAS, Trees Columbus Inc. and Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission, the Columbus Consolidated Government Tree Board, Columbus Coalition for Sound Growth, and Columbus Consolidated Government Urban Forest and Beautification Division will partner in the celebration through planting trees; and
WHEREAS, Trees in our city increase property value, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, beautify our community and are a source of joy and spiritual renewal; and
WHEREAS, The City Council of Columbus, Georgia and the National Arbor Day Foundation urge citizens to support tree planting efforts to enhance beautification and increase the tree canopy throughout our city; and
WHEREAS, The City Council of Columbus, Georgia supports the collaborative efforts of the Columbus Consolidated Government Urban Forestry and Beautification Division, Columbus Consolidated Government Tree Board, Trees Columbus Inc., and the Keep Columbus Beautiful Commission in their efforts to encourage planting and protecting trees.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, B.H. “Skip” Henderson III, Mayor of Columbus, Georgia, do hereby proclaim Saturday, February 22, 2020, as
Arbor Day
